Unipower Solutions, providers of multi-channel retail systems are currently offering their customers the option of going green and having their retail data centre installed in a virtual environment. We are now optionally providing data centre components for core systems in a pre installed virtualised environment on a Windows server machine.
Unipower’s CTO Leslie Coelho commented on this addition to Unipower offerings, saying “We decided to offer our product range virtualised as this technology provides a proven solution at a particularly attractive price/performance balance for tier 2 and 3 retailers.” He added: “As a side benefit, virtualisation also enables us to offer system failover facilities and security at a fraction of the cost of traditional solutions.”
This virtual data centre considerably reduces the number of physical machines required to run a full enterprise solution. This reduces both capital and operational costs to the retailer by reducing the requirement for additional servers with their associated cost, maintenance charges, space and cooling demands, and as a result, reducing the CO2 footprint of the Unipower Solution.
This is just one step in Unipower’s efforts towards the environment and we shall continue to put measures in place in order to both reduce our carbon footprint, but also to enable our clientele retailers to do the same.
